Eau Claire (WOQW) - Representative Ron Kind was in Eau Claire Saturday, doing his part to help the Bolton Refuge House.
Kind and a team of 25 supporters spent much of the day doing construction work at the new shelter for victims of abuse. They painted and tore down walls to make room for living and meeting spaces. He says his supporters turned out today because they recognize the important role the shelter plays in the Chippewa valley.
"The response was overwhelming," Kind says. "We have a good crew that showed up today. Obviously, it's not going to be a one-day shop. It's going to be a continuous effort throughout the year, providing assistance to such an important resource that we have here in the community."
The new shelter will be three times larger than the old one. Organizers say the added space is needed after the facility had its busiest year ever in 2009. They hope to open the new center in April.
