of millions of federal dollars are helping support fire stations across the
country.
Recently, the house passed the
2010 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill which will provide 810
million dollars for firefighter assistance. Monday, Representative
Ron Kind met with local firefighters in
The firefighters union
representative says this money allows fire departments to buy the equipment
that saves lives. Lt. Jeff Murphy, President of the Firefighters IFF
Local 127 says, "We need two things to do our job well. We need good
equipment and we need good staffing and that involves money on both sides. And
if we have fire grants that can provide some of that equipment it takes the
pressure off from local government and it allows us to continue our job as well
as we do."
